Monash University has been using Moodle for about 10 years since 2012. During this time, many customizations and enhancements have been made to the platform to meet functional and technical needs. However, some major aspects such as navigation, aesthetics and ease of use remain unaddressed. This results in a powerful tool that is frustrating to use. Moodle 4.0 was recently released and universities are working to upgrade to this version sometime in 2023. In the upgrade process, the university is exploring how the LMS of the future will look and work. MADA Education saw an opportunity to develop a proposed alternative to our Moodle version of the interface to enhance the user experience for staff and students. The focus of this study is to better discover the pain points of Moodle, understand how the user feel about it. So we can redesign the Moodle based on the data gained from usability test and interview to improve the experience of using Moodle.
We make the pie chart to show the true feelings of users when they use Moodle for their daily studies. These can help Moodle 4.0 and our team find and solve the pain points of Moodle.
After sorting out and studying the data, we summarized four pain points that commonly exist in moodle users. This can help us make suggestions for the improvement of Moodle in the later stage.
After summarizing the information of usability test and interview, we created persona to better show the basic characteristics and living habits of Moodle users to clients. This can better help customers understand the user experience. At the same time, our group has also made a journey map to show users' thoughts and feelings when using different functions of Moodle. This has brought a lot of opportunities and improvement space for the later redesign of Moodle 4.0.
